Waiting
“You’ve always been waiting for something,” she was right, I had, “but I could never understand exactly what it was. You hide yourself behind smiles and conversation.” It was true, every word, but I said nothing.
We were sitting side-by-side on the beach, gazing out at the setting sun. It was the typical end-of-the-movie, breathtakingly-beautiful-beside-your-lover type. I closed my eyes against her words and the sun, letting both soak into my skin as heat.
“Soulis, what are you waiting for?” It was a question I was not ready to answer; not to her, not to myself. I knew, but would never admit it. Such truth would never pass my lips as I was.
So I smiled and raised my face to the warm rays of Apollo’s chariot. “The sun is so warm today.” I could feel her eyes on me, but I ignored them and climbed to my feet, making a show of basking in the light.
“Yes, it’s quite warm.”
I could hide for another day.

Heya,
Hmm, a very interesting piece, once more spoken frome the first person. Hiding behind smiles and conversation, don’t we all do it from time to time? It’s part of human nature, I think… and what’s he waiting for? I wonder, was that a question to Soulis, to yourself or to the reader? Perhaps the three, perhaps only Soulis…
Keep on the good writing,

That all depends on how you want to look at it. She could be talking to all or none if you think about it. And, just to ask, why do you suspect the narrator is male?
Thanks for the review, Cesar. I really love reading them. ~.^

Hey,
Why I said he? Well, mainly because of the name, which I think can be used for both sexes. Also, the reference to the romance-scene hinted me to it (the narrator is talking with a girl, thus what completes the scene is a male). I guess I simply got it mixed up. ^^;;;
And well, it’s my pleasure to read your writings, so reviewing is, of course, the polite thing to do. ^.~
