Mine versus Yours

She was sleeping in his coat. Again.

Risse could feel the muscle beside his left eye jump. He had been looking for the jacket all day: a fine piece of sewn leather that he had acquired during his two-year absence from royalty. He had killed the stag himself that had yielded the hide and had never gone a day since without the piece about his shoulders. The grizzled prince now decided that Kit was determined to change that fact.

He knelt beside her quietly, inspecting how exactly she was entangled, only to realize that she was, in fact, wearing it. The tick jumped again beside his eye. The coat was far too big for her slim frame, able to go twice around easily; it was ridiculous for her to wear it.

Agitated, the prince leaned back on the balls of his feet to think. It was no small task to relieve Kit of anything she did not give freely. To do so without waking her… it was nigh impossible.

Risse sighed to himself and rubbed a hand over the stubble of his cheeks, hesitating. Slowly, his hand extended towards the lip of the jacket, steady and sure. If he just eased her out of it…

“You can’t have it back.” Before he knew it, a small but strong hand had gripped his wrist and pulled, sending him sprawling down to the ground. Before he realized what had happened, Kit had flung herself across his chest and resettled comfortably against the line of his body. She was still wrapped in his coat. “Don’t worry, I share.”

Risse simply rolled his eyes as one groggy hand dragged half of the leather across his abdomen. Almost instantly, Kit was asleep beside him, curled haphazardly in his arms. There would be no moving her.

One Response to “Mine versus Yours”

  1. Hey,

Kit is one interesting girl, you know? She not only got to keep the jacket, but also managed to get the annoyed Risse down and sleep besides him. Poor Risse, twice defeated in the same day. ^.~

These two I also like, and it’s always good to read about them. However, I still don’t understand that much Risse’s current situation. You said, here and to me, that he went into exile for two years, but that he is now back, or so it seems. Is he now the crown prince of his land, heir to the throne and recognized by all?
