A Girl in Boy’s Clothes
As a child, her father had tried to introduce her to other girls. He had given her dresses and dolls, taught her dance, music, and how to style her hair. He had showed her the world of etiquette, and encouraged her to pursue the goals of other young women. She had seen, learned, understood… And abruptly discarded all for boys’ trousers and a dagger. That was who she was — who she had always been. Her father had accepted it all with a wry smile and proud eyes.
“I’ll give you the tools you need to live. What you do with those are your choice.”
She supposed it did not help that she had also learned swordplay, wrestling, and hunting from both her brother and father. Nestled within a world of knighthood and testosterone, she had learned crude language, harsh realities, and subtle insults. Though she knew how to be female, she preferred the brash openness of men. It was liberating, honest.
Nevertheless, she was a woman.
“I’m going to rip your eyes out if you don’t close your mouth and stop staring, Kira.” The man in question abruptly clamped his jaws together, coming to his senses for the first time since she had stepped outside. Kit’s irritation peaked, however, at the stunned expression remaining on her brother’s face. Really, this was just a bit ridiculous. “Kira…”
“Wha–I… No offense, Kit, I just… You’re…” Kit scowled.
“You’re such a child…” Was it so unbelievable?
Huffing, Kit turned away, determined to ignore the reaction of her twin. She had already gotten enough stares from the castle servants, as well as a knowing smirk from Tirea that she did not understand. Walking through the halls, she had heard the stark silence as she passed, followed by loud, incredulous whispers. It was not as though she had shaved her head…
“That’s new.” Face met chest as she turned, and Kit suddenly found herself unexpectedly pressed into a firm body. Looking up, she was taken by surprise as Risse leaned down, kissing her without warning. “You should wear a dress more often. Looks good.” The next moment, he was brushing past with as much nonchalance as a feline.
Kit smirked after him.

Hey,
Hehe, that was nice. If she could cause so much whispering and reaction by just wearing a dress, just imagine if she were to put on some make up and act thoroughly feminine. Even Risse would show surprise (or alarm) I’m sure.
Keep on writing,

Excellent story snippet and so well written.
Wow! That was awesome, and I think it might have sparked a story idea or two of my own. I feel Kit. My mom wants me to be more of a girl, but I’ve always had more in common with guys than girls. Almost all of my friends are guys. My dad was one of the main reasons, I suppose, that I’m still a tomboy. He was happy that I was happy with who I am.
Anyhoo, great job, sorry to hear about the overwork with writing. I know exactly how that feels. Get to us when you can, and remember that we’re waiting for the next chapter. Good luck
